Changes in sleep, energy, sexual comfort or strength can raise questions about hormones. They deserve an individual assessment. “Hormone optimization” should mean identifying a relevant clinical problem and deciding how to address it, rather than assuming everyone needs replacement as they age.
Hormonal Changes Are Not All the Same
Menopause, testosterone deficiency and thyroid disease involve different evaluations. Symptoms can overlap with other health concerns, and a single laboratory value may not explain how someone feels. Treatment should follow the clinical picture, not a generic target for every hormone.
When Hormone Treatment May Help
Menopause Symptoms
ACOG describes hormone therapy as an effective option for hot flashes and other menopausal symptoms. Systemic estrogen also helps protect against menopausal bone loss. Choice of formulation depends on symptoms, medical history and whether a person has a uterus.
Risks can include blood clots, stroke and certain cancers, depending on the regimen and individual factors. Hormone therapy should not be presented as a general strategy to prevent heart disease or reverse aging. Explore our women’s hormone therapy service for consultation information.
Testosterone Deficiency
The Endocrine Society recommends diagnosing hypogonadism using compatible symptoms and consistently low testosterone, with confirmation and evaluation of the cause. Treatment requires monitoring and discussion of fertility, contraindications and adverse effects.
Fatigue alone does not establish testosterone deficiency. Our testosterone replacement page provides a starting point for that assessment.
How to Make Testing Useful
Bring your symptom history, medicines, supplements and previous results. Ask which tests address your concerns and how a finding would change treatment. Timing, repeat measurements and other conditions can affect interpretation.
A clear plan should explain the goal, expected review period and reasons to adjust or stop treatment. “Bioidentical” describes molecular similarity; it does not automatically mean safer or more effective.
The Lux Metabolic Optimization Program
Program investment: $650. The program includes:
- Comprehensive full-panel laboratory testing
- In-depth medical consultation
- A personalized hormone and metabolic optimization plan
- Care led by Dr. Foshee and Therese, RN
Ask the team to confirm what the evaluation covers and any separate treatment or follow-up costs before booking. An evaluation does not mean that hormone treatment will necessarily be recommended.
