Glucagon, G3 and Muscle Preservation During Weight Loss

If you train regularly, losing weight can raise a practical concern: how do you work toward less body fat while maintaining strength? Glucagon has attracted attention in metabolic research, but its role should not be simplified into a promise of fat loss without muscle loss.

Glucagon and G3: Define the Terms First

Glucagon is a hormone involved in blood glucose regulation. Luxura uses G3 as a branded name for its GLP-1 + GIP + glucagon combination. Our G3 introduction explains that branding and the questions to bring to a consultation.

The brand name alone does not identify a specific medication. Results from studies of other products, including single molecules acting on multiple receptors, cannot automatically be assigned to this combination. Claims about superiority, muscle protection or changes in energy expenditure need evidence for the actual formulation and use.

Does Glucagon Guarantee Muscle Preservation?

No. A proposed biological mechanism is not enough to establish that a treatment prevents muscle loss in patients. It also does not show that someone will maintain every measure of strength while losing weight.

Changes in “lean mass” are not identical to changes in skeletal muscle: lean mass includes other non-fat tissue and water. Looking only at a scale or one body-composition reading can therefore give an incomplete picture.

What Belongs in a Muscle-Preservation Plan?

A joint clinical advisory on nutrition during GLP-1 therapy emphasizes adequate nutrition and strength training, alongside assessment of muscle function and body composition. Protein intake and activity should be individualized, especially when appetite is reduced or medical conditions affect dietary choices.

Ask your clinician how to track the outcomes you care about: strength, recovery, daily function, weight trend and waist measurements. Discuss a sustainable pace of change and whether dietitian or exercise-professional support would be useful.

When Progress Stalls

A plateau is a reason to review the plan, not proof that you need another compound. Bring information about medication use, eating patterns, activity and symptoms. Our GLP-1 plateau guide outlines that review.

Discuss Weight Management at Luxura

During a medical weight-loss consultation, ask about the ingredients and evidence behind each option, its risks, and how response will be monitored. A clear plan should explain what would prompt a change or discontinuation, rather than promise a particular physique. Contact our Chicago team to discuss your goals.
